LIS 5020 Foundations of Library and Information Science (core)

This assignment discusses the response of American libraries to the digital divide. It uses statistics from the American Library Association (ALA) to demonstrate the impact of inadequate internet access across the United States. Additionally, it provides examples of programs that libraries are actively implementing to bridge the digital divide in their communities. Finally, it highlights the continuing critical role libraries fill for many communities.

II.b. Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet the needs of users.

LIS 6511 Collection Development (core)

This assignment was compiled in the Spring of 2024. It demonstrates my ability to work with a team and evaluate and select archival sources. I contributed the data for both the student and faculty surveys and created thirty-six representative graphs, so we could determine what to add to our collections. In this document, we suggested the expansion of our current collections and the addition of materials to a community history collection to represent more voices. Furthermore, we recommend that the community history collection be digitized to make it more accessible to those who are differently abled.

II.c. Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.

This LibGuide, created in the Fall of 2022, demonstrates my ability to organize information using software tools and web applications, locate and use reference sources of varying formates, evaluate references according to user needs, and provide information about a specific topic (Bob Ross’s legacy). The goal of this assignment was to target a user group, those who are interested in Bob Ross’s art and legacy, and guide them to specific resources.
