Co-Curricular Experience

Professional Library Work

While pursuing my degree, I worked full-time at Ave Maria School of Law as Access Services Librarian. My role included supervising a seven-person team of student workers and one part-time employee. The majority of my work in circulation consisted of assisting the faculty, staff, and students of the law school, and local attorneys and judges needing support and reference help. My tasks included using integrated library systems for running the ILL department, creating course reserves, generating usage statistics pertaining to circulation, updating superseded law, conducting research on legal and historical topics, and maintaining the library collection and space.

Internships

In the summer of 2023, I interned with the Law Library of Congress (LLOC). This program was remote and required over ten hours of work per week. It included daily sessions on legal research, historical research, metadata, current topics in librarianship, and writing properly sourced articles for government publishing. The final project for this internship was writing articles with accessible metadata for publication on the LLOC’s blog, In Custodia Legis.

Certifications

During my Fall 2023 semester, I completed an Introduction to Regular Expressions course with Library Juice Academy. This certification had four graded models wherein I created queries using regular expressions to extract and change large quantities of data in RegExr.

In the Spring of 2024, I completed an Introduction to Databases and SQL course with EdEx. In this course, I learned how to write Sequel (SQL) commands. The course also provided the opportunity to use SQL commands in SQLite, a serverless database management system, to generate specified data from script files.
